Join Indigenous Vision this October as we present ‘Cultural Humility – Train the Trainer’ virtually!

Registration is officially open and as always seating is limited. We encourage you and one other team member to sign up and begin the journey of practicing cultural humility in your workplace or organization as this is a ‘train the trainer’ session. Your facilitators are Souta Calling Last (Blackfoot) and Melissa Spence (Ojibway) who have been guiding cohorts through the 10 hour training for years (in-person & virtually).

What is Cultural Humility?

“A process of self-reflection and discovery in order to build honest and trustworthy relationships. The individual not only learns about another’s culture, but starts with an examination of their own beliefs and cultural identities.” – Melanie Tervalon & Jann Murray-Garcia, 1998

The cultural humility model provides a method to advocate and maintain accountability by redressing the power imbalances in the workplace and in our communities. For over two decades, the model has replaced the insufficient notion of “cultural competence” with a cyclical approach that embraces critical self-reflection as a lifelong learning process to create a broader, more inclusive view of the world.

How do I use Cultural Humility?

“At its base, cultural humility means opening up a conversation in a way that genuinely attempts to understand a person’s identities related to race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, education, social needs, and others.” – Health City – Boston Medical Center

Over the course of the training we’ll teach you how to build up those dialoguing muscles and begin taking the concept into the real world. We guide you through numerous activities with your cohort to begin practicing the principles of cultural humility in real time. This training is interactive even in our virtual settings, we’ve created a necessary space for all to use and learn.
