The traditional homelands of the Southern Paiute or Nuwuvi people, is where Indigenous Vision has been co-hosting multiple events over the past year with other nonprofits like Her 38 Roses and Fifth Sun Project.
This April we got together a group of Indigenous women for a special Ribbon Skit Workshop in Las Vegas as we prepare for the upcoming MMIW Week & Day of Awareness, (known in Canada as Red Dress Day on May 5th).
Our group was lead by two Elders who have been making ribbon skirts for several years, and we were so lucky to have them share not just their knowledge as seasoned skirt makers, but as educators on the history and journey of the Ribbon Skirt.
Armed with several sewing machines, beautiful materials and smiles, we spent 4 hours crafting our own personalized Ribbon Skirts we all plan on wearing at the 3rd Annual 5K Prayer Run/Walk this May 5th to honor Debra BlackCrown, (mother of Deanna BlackCrow of Her 38 Roses).
Indigenous Vision is once again proud to be apart of this event taking place at the historic Tule Springs at Floyd Lamb Park where our community will remember our missing and murdered loved ones.
Check out the video from our Ribbon Skirt Workshop! Thank you everyone for being a part of this event, we’ll be seeing you on May 5th.
