Indigenous Vision is thankful to be a grantee of The Share Fund this year! The Share Fund is a Seattle Based organization that was established in 2021 by Bill and Holly Marklyn. The couple has committed to redistributing their wealth back into communities like ours as a way of stepping out of traditional power structures and donor control. Indigenous Vision is officially selected as a grantee in 2023 thanks to members of The Share Fund committee for recognizing our work in environmental justice and advocating for MMIWG’s. As a new recipient we will be using our grant to continue the work within the MMIWG crisis in Washington State. We’re very grateful to be given this opportunity!

Not only was Indigenous Vision selected as a 2023 funding grantee, we were invited to Seattle to be a part of The Share Fund’s Fall Gathering! We met the very loving and generous Holly and Bill Marklyn, event organizer Sewheat Asfaha, and many of the other 2023 grantees. Our team spent the evening mingling with The Share Fund committee members like Emily Washines (Native Friends), and got to hear the stories behind the work of other grantees.

Using the time to make connections with other organizations working to make the world a better place was truly one of the highlights of the event. We met with Cierra Sisters founder, Bridgett Hampstead, who is a cancer survivor dedicated to breaking the cycle of fear and increasing knowledge of breast cancer in the African-American and underserved communities. Bridgett will be joining us on a future IVPodcast to share her amazing story and work with our listeners. Another cancer focused organization we had the honor of meeting were Keep Goin’, whose mission is to ‘offer fun, healing, wellness, and relaxation trips to family, caregivers, patients facing advanced life-threatening medical conditions, and their families“.

The stories we powerful, the support was unreal, and the energy overall in the room at this event was truly inspiring. It was amazing to be given such a lovely space to share our work here at Indigenous Vision with the rest of The Share Fund grantees and give them some insights about what we already have planned to do with the grant. More on that in the near future!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to get to know us in those very quick 3 hours, we felt the love! To say we’re excited to be a part of The Share Fund’s work would be an understatement. We were truly blown away by the passions of other grantees like Mother Yoga, who are committed to making yoga accessible for their community.

Indigenous Vision is humbled to be a part of this community and is looking forward to making an impact in Washington State in 2024! Stay tuned to find out what we have in store!
